Redwomen pick up first win

A blast from the past didn’t help the in the present day.
St. Joseph honored the original players from the program’s first teams prior to the game. The Fabulous Female Flyers were 51-3 from 1972-76 and had a 46-game winning streak. They runners-up in the Class A regional in 1976, the program’s only regional appearance.
The current Lady Flyers couldn’t get on track as the Rock Hill Redwomen picked up their first win of the season 56-36 on Thursday.
St. Joseph took a 2-0 lead but Rock Hill ran off 10 unanswered points before Kaitlyn Sheridan’s basket at the 1:34 mark of the first quarter.
The Redwomen then went up 14-4 at the end of the quarter.
Sheridan’s 19-pointer early in the second quarter got the Lady Flyers within 14-11 only to have the Redwomen scored the final five points of the half and take a 23-14 lead.
At. Joseph closed the gap to 28-21 only to miss a layup and Makayla Scott raced down the floor for a layup and it was 30-21.
Scott scored eight points in the quarter and Rileigh Morris five. Emma Whaley had six for the Lady Flyers.
Rock Hill (1-5) then extended the lead to 40-24 to end the third quarter.
Morris had seven points in the fourth quarter and Kylee Howard had five points including a 3-pointer as Rock Hill outscored St. Joseph 16-12.
Bella Whaley and Laiken Unger scored four each for the Lady Flyers.
Morris scored a game-high 21 points to lead Rock Hill while Scott finished with 12.
St. Joseph (3-6) was led by Emma Whaley with 13 points. Sheridan had nine for the Lady Pointers.
St. Joseph plays at Sciotoville East next Thursday. Rock Hill plays at Portsmouth on Thursday, Jan. 3.
