HUNTINGTON, W.Va. — The Coal Grove Hornets decided to light up their Christmas 3s.
Cory Borders knocked down six 3-point goals and the Hornets had 11 as a team to pace Coal Grove’s 83-51 romp over the Huntington St. Joseph Irish on Thursday.
Borders finished with 20 points while Evan Gannon got three triples for nine points. But Aaron Music was plugged in with two 3-pointers among his game-high 25 points to go with six rebounds as Coal Grove ran its record to 5-2
Music scored seven points, Jaylen McKenzie had six of his 10 points and Gannon dropped in a pair of 3-pointers as Coal Grove took a 19-8 first quarter lead.
McKenzie led the Hornets with 10 rebounds. He also had four assists and four steals with Music getting four steals and three blocked shots.
The Hornets lit up the scoreboard for 31 points in the second quarter as Borders drained five trifectas and scored 17 points and Music had 12 points to open up a 50-13 halftime cushion.
Five different players scored in the third quarter as each team got 18 points and it was 68-31. Cory Sweeney hit two 3-pointers and had eight points while Jaden Price had five points including a 3-pointers to pace the Irish.
Coal Grove’s backups finished up in the fourth quarter with Ethan Short scoring nine points and Evan Holmes added four points to pace the Hornets.
Parker Rice had nine points including a pair of 3-pointer for the Irish.
Coal Grove plays at Oak Hill next Wednesday.
