PROCTORVILLE — The Fairland Dragons don’t plan on getting gin a hurry. And they don’t plan on letting their opponents changing that.
The Dragons like to take their time and get a good shot. They did that on Tuesday as they beat the Portsmouth Trojans 49-30 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Fairland’s methodical approach created a 49 percent shooting night as they made 17-of-35 field goal attempts and had six different players go 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Ian Chinn and Jacob Polcyn had 10 points and five rebounds each for the Dragons (6-4, 3-1) who stayed in a first-place tie in the OVC.
Matt Mondlak added nine points and Aiden Porter had six assists and Clayton Thomas five more as the Dragon handed out 15 total.
Danny Lattimore had 13 points and four rebounds for Portsmouth (5-6, 1-3) while Matt Fraulini added seven points.
Fairland took a 12-7 first quarter lead as Polcyn had six points. Fraulini hit a 3-pointer and Lattimore had four points in the first quarter.
The Dragons went up 22-13 at the half as Chinn scored four points while Gavin Hunt, Porter and Polcyn each added a bucket.
Mondlak hit a 3-pointer and scored seven points with Thomas also hitting a trifecta and the Dragons extended the lead to 32-18.
Lattimore had four of Portsmouth’s five points in the third quarter.
Austin Gartin hit a trey and went 2-for-2 at the foul line in the fourth quarter as the Dragons outscored the Trojans 17-12. Chinn and Porter scored four each.
Fairland was 8-of-8 at the line in the quarter.
Fraulini and Lattimore had three points each in the fourth quarter.
On Friday, Fairland goes to Gallipolis and Portsmouth hosts Rock Hill.
