Once the St. Joseph Lady Flyers finally got their imitation of a door swinging in and out, they slammed the door on the Hannan Lady Wildcats.
The Lady Flyers had trouble with their outside game early and that hurt the inside game. But once they began to hit their shots, it resulted in a 47-18 win on Thursday.
“We couldn’t hit anything early, but once the shots started to fall, it opened things up inside,” said Lady Flyers’ coach Bart Burcham.
“Emma (Whaley) hit some shots. Bella (Whaley) got scoring. Kaitlyn (Sheridan) started looking for her shot and she shot pretty well.”
Sheridan led a balanced offense with 14 points while Bella Whaley had 10 points and Emma Whaley and Chloe Sheridan scored nine each.
“Kaitlyn had a bunch of steals. Emma and Bella have been steady all year. Chloe Sheridan played well off the bench again. Faith had nine rebounds and didn’t even play the first quarter,” said Burcham.
Faith Mahlmeister grabbed nine rebounds while Bella Whaley had seven and Emilee Blankenship pulled down five.
Julie Frazier scored nine points for Hannan who beat the Lady Flyers 41-40 early in the season.
St. Joseph (6-7) led 10-6 after the first quarter as Sheridan scored four points, Emma Whaley hit a trifecta and Bella Whaley had three points.
The defense held Hannan to just two points in the second quarter and Bella Whaley’s trey helped make it 16-8 at intermission.
The Lady Flyers came to life in the third quarter as Emma Whaley hit two more triples and Sheridan had a trifecta and scored five points to open up a 31-11 cushion.
Chloe Sheridan came off the bench to score seven of her points in the fourth quarter including a 3-pointer while Kaitlyn Sheridan hit another trey and scored five points.
St. Joseph travels to Beaver Eastern on Monday.
