Dragons rally by Panthers

CHESAPEAKE — The Fairland Dragons must have saved everything for the fourth quarter.
Trailing almost the entire game, Fairland outscored the Chesapeake Panthers 19-3 in the fourth quarter and the Dragons rallied for a 56-47 Ohio Valley Conference win on Tuesday.
The win enabled the Dragons (9-4) to take over sole possession of first place at 5-1.
Chesapeake led 44-37 after three quarters only to have Clayton Thomas hit a 3-pointer and made it 44-40 less than two minutes into the fourth quarter.
Logan Walsh made a foul shot for the Panthers but Ian Chinn got two straight baskets and Matt Mondlak scored with 3:01 to go as Fairland took a 46-45 lead.
The lead was 51-45 when Eli Archer hit two free throws with 32 seconds left. The Dragons then hit went to the foul line with Mondlak making two shots and Thomas was 4-for-4 to put the lead at 56-47 with 12 seconds to go.
The Panthers took an 8-7 lead on a basket by Tylan Hutchison at the 2:56 mark of the first quarter and Chesapeake never trailed until the fourth quarter. The game was tied once at 25-25 with 2:05 on the second quarter clock.
Hutchison and Archer then scored to give Chesapeake a 29-25 halftime lead.
Levin Blankenship hit a jumper to start the third quarter and make it 31-25 only to have Thomas answer with a 3-pointer.
Blankenship scored again but Aiden Porter knocked down a trey for the Dragons and it was 33-31.
Austin Jackson and Hutchison scored to put the Panthers ahead 37-31. Porter hit a 3-pointer but Archer scored and it was 44-37 to end the third quarter.
Thomas scored 17 points while Chinn had 15 points and six rebounds to lead the Dragons. Porter and Mondlak scored 10 each.
Archer and Hutchison scored 15 points each for the Panthers (8-5, 2-4).
