Pharmacy owners Jack and Frances Fruth wanted to use their family-owned company to impact the quality of life in the Ohio and West Virginia communities served by their business.

Nearly three decades later, their daughter, Lynne Fruth, who serves as the company’s president, said hundreds of students have been assisted with scholarship funds established in the Fruth name.

Fruth echoes her parents’ vision. She said this legacy of giving is “the best way to impact our local communities (and) to help educate their young men and women.”
Ohio University Southern received a $2,000 gift recently to support the Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship, an endowed scholarship for graduating seniors from Lawrence County schools to attend Ohio University Southern.

The 2018 Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship recipient at Ohio University Southern is Austin Riddle, a graduate of Rock Hill High School.

Dr. Nicole Pennington, dean of the Southern Campus, said support from companies like Fruth is vital to students.

“Scholarships are such a critical need for our students, and The Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship makes degrees possible for them,” she said.

OUS is one of the institutions with a Fruth Pharmacy Scholarship. Eligible scholarship applicants must be enrolled in or accepted for admission to the Southern Campus.

Applicants must also have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.5 and have a demonstrated financial need.

Fruth generates funding to support its scholarships by hosting an annual golf tournament, which has raised more than $800,000 for forty scholarships across the region since 1991.
