Balanced offense sparks Lady Pointers win

SOUTH POINT — If you like balance, you’ll like what the South Point Lady Pointers did.
Seven different players scored as the Lady Pointers beat the Chesapeake Lady Panthers 53-35 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Thursday.
Ashley Perkey had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists while Emilee Whitt got 11 points, six rebounds, four assists and two steals to lead the Lady Pointers (11-3).
Emilee Carey and Kate Mundy scored eight points each and Maddy Khounlavong added six points.
South Point is now tied for second in the league with Fairland at 6-2.
Chesapeake (6-8, 3-5) was led by Corrine Ferguson with a career-high 16 points while Maddie Ward added nine points.
Khounlavong hit a pair of 3-pointers and Perkey added four points as South Point took a 12-7 first quarter lead.
Ferguson had five points including a 3-pointer for the Lady Panthers
The Lady Pointers extended the lead to 27-17 at the break as Mundy scored six of her eight points and Carey knocked down a 3-pointer in the second quarter.
Karli Davis and Ward scored four points each in the quarter for Chesapeake.
South Point outscored Chesapeake 10-6 in the third quarter to go up 37-23.
Whitt knocked down a 3-pointer and had four points as four different players scored in the third quarter and South Point outscored Chesapeake 10-6.
Ferguson scored all six points for the Lady Panthers.
Diamond Crawley had all five of her points in the fourth quarter including a trifecta and the Lady Pointers were 6-of-8 at the foul line.
Whitt was 3-for-4, Crawley 2-for-2 and Sarah Roach 1-for-2 at the line.
Blake Anderson went 4-for-4 at the foul line while Ward and Ferguson each hit 3-pointers for Chesapeake.
On Monday, Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill and South Point visits Portsmouth.
