Music, Hornets get by Pointers

COAL GROVE — the scoring was moving along at a turtle’s pace. Aaron Music decided to get it up to a rabbit’s pace.
After being tied 15-15 at the half, Music scored 11 of his points in the second half to ignite the Coal Grove Hornets to a 46-33 win over the South Point Pointers in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Coal Grove is now 10-4 overall and remains tied for second in the league with Ironton and Gallipolis at 5-2.
Music finished with 17 points, 14 rebounds, four assists, three steals and two blocked shots.
Evan Holmes had his best offensive game of the season with eight points to go with a block and a steal.
Nate Harmon had six points, two assists and a block while Jaylen McKenzie also had six points, three assists and a steal.
South Point (6-6, 3-4) was led by Chance Gunther with 13 points. Brody Blackwell had eight points including a pair of 3-pointers while Austin Webb scored seven points.
South Point led 7-6 after the first quarter as Blackwell hit one of his triples. Holmes had four points for the Hornets.
Evan Gannon got a trifecta and Music scored four points as Coal Grove tied the game at the half. Gunther hit a trey for the Pointers.
McKenzie scored all six points his pints in the third quarter, Music added five points and Harmon had four more as the Hornets took a 34-28 lead.
Gunther hit a pair of treys and Blackwell added another long bomb to keep the Pointers close.
But in the fourth quarter, Coal Grove’s defense held the Pointers to just five points while Music scored six points and the Hornets went 4-for-4 at the foul line. Both Cory Borders and Music were 2-for-2.
On Tuesday, Coal Grove visits Portsmouth and South Point hosts Chesapeake.
