Balanced Panthers knock off Pointers

SOUTH POINT — Evidently, eight is enough.
The Chesapeake Panthers had eight different players score as they beat the South Point Pointers 56-38 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Tuesday.
Chesapeake was led by Eli Archer with 13 points. Tylan Hutchison had 10 points and Logan Walsh scored nine.
Austin Webb had 14 points and Chance Gunther 10 to pace South Point (6-8, 3-5).
Walsh, Nathan Cox and Austin Jackson hit 3-pointers as Chesapeake took a 16-8 first quarter lead.
Webb had four points for the Pointers.
The Panthers (10-5, 3-5) got the lead to 39-19 at the half as Walsh and Archer scored four points each in the second quarter. Levi Blankenship and Jackson both went 2-for-2 at the foul line.
Roger Staggs hit a 3-pointer and scored five points for South Point.
Chesapeake extended the lead to 41-29 after the third quarter as Archer scored seven points and Hutchison added five. Gunther and Webb had four points each for South Point.
The Panthers continued to pull away in the fourth quarter as Trent Dearth scored all six of his points, Hutchison got five and Blankenship four.
Hutchison was 3-for-4 and Blankenship 2-for-3 from the foul line in the quarter.
Webb got four more points as South Point managed just nine in the quarter.
On Friday, Chesapeake hosts Rock Hill and South Point entertains Portsmouth.
