Lady Tigers shoot their way past Redwomen, 58-41

PEDRO — The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers just keep hanging around.
Ironton remained in the thick of the Ohio Valley Conference race with a 58-41 win over the Rock Hill Redwomen on Thursday.
Ironton is now 8-3 in the OVC, good for second place and one-half game behind Coal Grove and Fairland.
The scoring duo of Haylee Stevens and Riley Schreck were at it again as Stevens scored 14 points and Schreck had 13 for Ironton (8-9).
Lydia Hannan added 10 points including two 3-pointers.
Stevens hit four 3-pointers while Schreck made three shots from behind the arc. Ironton had 10 as a team.
“We had great ball movement. We gave a lot of effort,” said Lady Tigers’ coach Doug Graham.
Rock Hill (3-13, 0-10) got 17 points from Rileigh Morris who was 7-of-8 at the line and Makayla Scott had nine points.
The Redwomen were a season-best 16-of-18 at the foul line for the game.
Ironton took a 15-10 first quarter lead as Stevens hit a trey and scored five points while Lydia Hannan and Schreck each hit 3-pointers.
Scott scored four points and Morris hit a 3-pointer and a foul shot for the Redwomen.
Ironton extended the lead to 33-24 at the break as Schreck made two more trifectas and scored eight points. Elli Williams and Hannah also hit 3-pointers.
Rock Hill was 6-of-6 at the foul line, Morris hit a 3-pointer and scored five points and Savannah Cade added a triple in the quarter.
The Lady Fighting Tigers held Rock Hill to just seven points in the third quarter — Morris was 4-of-4 at the line — as they pulled away to a 47-31 lead. Samantha LaFon and Williams scored four points each in the quarter.
It was Stevens who did most of the damage in the fourth quarter with three more treys for nine points.
Four different players scored for Rock Hill with Morris getting a field goal and two more foul shots.
On Monday, Ironton goes to Chesapeake and Rock Hill hosts Coal Grove.
