Webb gives SP 57-56 win over Trojans

SOUTH POINT — The South Point Pointers needed a win. Austin Webb delivered.
Webb drove to the basket and was fouled with time running out. He then hit the second of two foul shots with six seconds left to lift the Pointers to a 57-56 Ohio Valley Conference win over the Portsmouth Trojans on Friday.
“We competed. We just battled. We haven’t been consistent, but we competed and we got a win we needed,” said Pointers’ coach Travis Wise.
Webb finished with 21 points while Chance Gunther scored 13 for the Pointers (7-8, 4-5).
Portsmouth (6-10, 2-7) was led by Danny Lattimore with 17, Myquel McKinley with 15 and Miles Shipp added 10.
Portsmouth led 19-14 after the first quarter and 28-23 at the half.
Gunther hit a pair of 3-pointers and Webb scored seven points as the Pointers cut the deficit to 44-40 after three quarters.
Gunther hit another trey and scored five points in the fourth quarter while Webb had a 3-pointer and scored 12 points including the game-winner.
South Point played at Wheelersburg on Saturday. On Tuesday, South Point goes to Fairland and Portsmouth hosts Chesapeake.
