COAL GROVE — What a difference a day can make.
After going 0-for-15 from the 3-point line on Friday, the Coal Grove Hornets made 13 3-pointers on Saturday as they beat the Huntington St. Joseph Fighting Irish 72-45.
Aaron Music had 16 points with a pair of 3-pointers, Cory Borders scored 11 points with three triples and Evan Holmes 10 points including two treys as three Hornets reached double figures.
Music also had 12 rebounds, four assists and three steals. Holmes had three rebounds and three steals while Nate Harmon grabbed four rebounds for Coal Grove (12-5).
Sam Adkins scored 11 points and Bronson Barker 10 to pace the Irish (2-14).
Coal Grove led 12-7 after the first quarter as Holmes scored four points and Kyle Sites hit a 3-pointer. Adkins had a 3-pointer for the Irish.
The lead grew to 30-17 at the half as Music hit a 3-pointer and scored eight points while Evan Gannon made a 3-pointer and scored five points and Borders added a trifecta.
The Hornets blew the game open in the third quarter as they outscored St. Joseph 24-11 and it was 54-28.
Borders had a pair of 3-pointers and scored eight points while Payten Smith, Gannon and Music also hit 3-pointers.
In the fourth quarter, Holmes drained a pair of shots from behind the arc, Sites hit his second triple and Ethan Short scored four points.
The Irish were 7-of-9 from the foul line and Jaden Price and Barker hit 3-pointers.
The Hornets visit Gallipolis on Tuesday.
