Vikings continue late season surge with win

PEDRO — Every team has a goal to get better as the season progresses. The Symmes Valley Vikings are obtaining that goal.
After losing 62-34 at home against Rock Hill in December, the Vikings showed their continued improvement as they beat the Redmen 59-42 on Saturday.
“The boys came out with a great deal of focus. I thought they followed the game plan and had great attention to detail,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Coffman.
“This might have been our most complete game of the season and certainly the most consistent from possession to possession. We need to keep working hard and use this heading into next week.”
Luke Leith had 19 points and Jack Leith 16 to lead the Vikings (4-13). Drew Scherer and Trent Turner added eight points each.
Rock Hill (3-13) was led by Garrett Miller with 11 points and Logan Hankins with 10 while Owen Hankins added nine. Kadin France grabbed eight rebounds.
The Vikings jumped to a 15-7 first quarter lead as Luke and Jack Leith scored six points each. Logan Hankins scored four points.
The Vikings led 29-17 at the half as the Leith brothers again scored six points each. Miller and Owen Hankins each hit a 3-pointer and scored five points.
Symmes Valley extended the lead to 39-25 after three quarters as Alec Carpenter hit a trifecta and Jack Leith scored three points.
Miller scored six of Rock Hill’s eight points in the quarter.
In the fourth quarter, Luke Leith had seven points, Turner six and Scherer five.
The Vikings were 7-of-12 form the line in the quarter with Turner hitting 4-of-5.
Logan Hankins drained a pair of 3-pointers, France had four points and Caleb Dillon knocked down a trey in the fourth quarter for the Redmen.
