ATHENS — For a swimmer, this was a cannonball.
Ironton Fighting Tigers’ freshman swimmer Kendall Dodgion enjoyed unbeaten regular season and the season isn’t over just yet.
Dodgion made quite a splash in the Division II Southeast sectional tournament on Saturday at Ohio University as she qualified for the district meet on Thursday at Ohio State University.
Dodgion captured first place in the 200-yard individual medley as she knocked 10 seconds off her personal-best record.
She also splashed her way to the district in the 100-yard freestyle as she was narrowly beaten and settled for runner-up. However, she clipped three seconds off her personal record.
The district will begin at 2:30 p.m. on Valentine’s Day with the top two swimmers in each event qualifying for the state meet Wednesday through Saturday, Feb. 20-23, at the C.T. Branin Natatorium in Canton.
The district will be comprised of swimmers from the Southeast, Central and East sectionals.
