Dragons finish OVC title season with 52-21 win

PROCTORVILLE — That’s Ohio Valley Conference champions with an exclamation point.
The Fairland Dragons completed their run through the OVC as they beat the Rock Hill Redmen 52-21 on senior night Friday.
Picked to finish in the middle of the pack in the preseason, the Dragons finished off their surprise season with a fourth straight league title as they lost just one OVC game, two games ahead of the second-place team Ironton.
Fairland (18-4, 13-1) was led by Aiden Porter with 19 points including 5-of-9 from behind the arc. Clayton Thomas had 10 points three assists, two steals and three rebounds while Ian Chinn had 10 points and four rebounds and Jacob Polcyn had six rebounds and five assists.
Kadin France had six points and seven rebounds to lead the Redmen (4-18, 0-14).
Fairland led just 8-4 after the first quarter as Porter hit a pair of 3-pointers.
The Dragons’ offense caught fire in the second quarter by outscoring the Redmen 21-6 and it was 29-10 at the half.
Chinn scored six points, Porter hit a trifedta and scored five points, Polcyn had five points and Austin Gartin hit a triple for the Dragons.
Nick Blankenship had a trey for Rock Hill.
Fairland extended the lead to 39-19 after three quarters as Thomas hit a pair of long bombs and scored all 10 of his team’s points in the quarter.
Jake Blagg had four points and Owen Hankins a 3-pointer for the Redmen.
Rock Hill could only manage a basket by France in the fourth quarter as Fairland continued to pull away. Porter hit two more 3-pointers and had eight points.
The two teams will play for the third time this season at 6:15 p.m. on Wednesday in the Division III sectional tournament at Jackson.
