Cold-shooting Flyers fall at NW

McDERMOTT — Not much happened for three quarters.
But then came the fourth quarter.
In a game that saw both offenses struggle to make a shot, the Northwest Mohawks finally got their offense going in the fourth quarter as they edged the St. Joseph Flyers 48-42 on Saturday.
Leading just one point after three quarters, Northwest outscored St. Joseph 20-15 in the four quarter to take the win.
The Mohawks converted 6-of-12 from the foul line in the fourth quarter and 12-of-25 for the game. The Flyers were 11-of-15 at the line for the game.
J.C. Damron had a game-high 18 points to lead the Flyers while Zach Roach scored 11.
Chase McClay had 11 points and Timmy Emmons nine for the Mohawks.
Evan Throckmorton scored four points as Northwest led 8-7 after the first quarter. Roach hit a 3-pointer and scored five of the Flyers seven points.
St. Joseph (14-8) got only seven points again in the second quarter. The Flyers were 5-of-8 at the foul line in the second quarter and Damron had the only basket.
McClay and Billy Crabtree scored four points each to account for the Mohawks scoring.
The Mohawks led just 28-27 after three quarters thanks to 3-pointer by Brayden Campbell and five points from McClay.
Damron hit a trifecta and scored eight points while Roach drained a trey and scored five points in the third quarter.
Emmons scored all nine of his points in the fourth quarter including 3-of-4 from the line. Brayden Campbell added four points.
Isaac Whaley and Jimmy Mahlmeister hit 3-pointers and Darmon scored five points for the Flyers in the fourth quarter.
St. Joseph plays Leesburg Fairfield at 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 26, at Northwest in the Division IV sectional tournament.
