Marshall, Lady Dragons beat Valley to win sectional title

JACKSON — There was a new Marshall in town and she proved to be the law.
Senior Allie Marshall had 22 points and 19 rebounds to lead the Fairland Lady Dragons to a 57-36 win over the Lucasville Valley Lady Indians in the Division III sectional finals on Saturday.
Jenna Stone added 12 points while Kelsie Warnock grabbed 12 rebounds for the Lady Dragons (19-4).
Kaity Howard scored 11 points to lead Valley (10-14).
The lead changed hands seven times in the first quarter until Stone made two foul shots at the 2:27 mark that put Fairland ahead for good at 9-8.
Marshall scored to lead 13-10 before Brooklyn Buckle got Valley within 13-12. Stone hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer and it was 16-12.
The Lady Dragons got their offense going in the second quarter. Harley Lyons drained a triple to ignite a 16-3 run that extended the lead to 32-15 as Lyons converted a three-point play with 1:33 left in the half.
Howard’s foul shot ended the run and Bre Call hit two baskets that made it 34-20 at the half.
A 3-pointer by Warnock put the lead at 39-21 with 5:06 on the third quarter clock. Warnock’s foul shot had the lead at 47-30 to end the quarter.
No one scored again until Marshall’s free throw with 5:39 to play and Lyons followed with a basket at the 4:08 mark.
A 3-pointer by Bailey Roland gave Fairland its biggest lead at 57-34 with 1:24 to go.
The Lady Dragons play at 1:45 p.m. Saturday in the district semifinals against Wheelersburg at the Waverly downtown arena.
