Barbara Bryant

Nov. 12, 1931 — March 11, 2019

Barbara Moore Skaggs Bryant, of Ashland, Kentucky, died Monday, March 11, 2019, at Woodland Oaks Health Care Facility. Barbara was born Nov. 12, 1931, the oldest child of Harlan and Annabelle Moore, in Kitts Hill.
Barbara was a resident of Boyd County for most of her adult life. She assisted Dr. Frank Gwen’s medical practice for many years, was a small business owner, worked as a realtor and retired from Walmart after 17 years of employment in 2002. After retirement, she invested her life in helping raise her twin great-granddaughters, Joselyn and Jasmine Bryant. Barbara was a talented artist and interior designer. Above all, Barb loved God and she loved people. She opened both her heart and her home to many people in need and shared generously whatever she had. She was a longtime member of Ashland Assembly of God Church.
Barbara is survived by a son, Scott Bryant (wife Leah); a daughter, Melinda Skaggs Hampton (husband John); daughter-in-law, Jamie Bryant; sisters, Harleen Myatt and Beverly Smith; sister-in-law, Lois Moore; a niece; and several nephews.
She was “Gran” to Shane and Jessica Bryant, Lydia Bryant Page (husband Brandon), Jacob Bryant (wife Nichole), Anna Hampton Ashie (husband Nii) and Rachel Hampton Donaldson (husband Caleb). She was a “Great Gran” to Joselyn and Jasmine and Ella Bryant, Wyatt and Maggie Page and Hampton and Davies Ashie.
She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Ricky Bryant.
Funeral services for Barbara will be 11 a.m. today at the Lazear Funeral Home Chapel, Ashland, Kentucky. Friends may call one hour before the service today at the funeral home. A private committal service will be conducted later that day. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Home, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Lazear Funeral Home, Ashland, Kentucky.

 

Hilda Davidson

Oct. 4, 1923 — March 11, 2019

Hilda Marie Rowe Davidson, 95, of Ironton, passed away Monday, March 11, 2019. The Lawrence County native was born Oct. 4, 1923, the daughter of the late George and Aurelia Vencil Rowe.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Pearl N. Davidson Jr.; and a son, George Nathan Davidson.
Hilda graduated from Pedro High School and attended Ashland Business College, Ohio University Southern and Rio Grande College. She was an office manager for various places, including Steenbergen Turkey Farm, Briggs Library, Buckeye Monument, Barnes Plumbing and was the director of the CAO WIC program.
She helped with the Cub Scouts and 4-H clubs in her earlier years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Ironton. Hilda really loved Ironton, its politics, even running for city council. She was an avid walker, retreating to her West Virginia mountain cabin.
Known as Hiddle by her family and close friends, she is survived by two daughters, Judith (Steve) Patton, of Knoxville, Tennessee, and Rita Anne Neal, of Ironton; a daughter-in-law, Jo Davidson, of Winter Park, Florida; a sister, Joan Mason, of Ironton; seven grandchildren, Carrie Bearden (Jon) Creek, Chris Patton, Kate (Scott) Atchley, Kurt (Ruth) Patton, Amy (Brian) McCoy, Jessica (Chris) Howard and Andrew Neal; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren.
Her brother, HD Rowe, and sister, Georgene Hager, are deceased.
Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday at Phillips Funeral Home, Ironton, with the Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Visitation will be 11 a.m. until the time of the service Friday at the funeral home. Winston Short

Winston Leo Shirt, 81, of Willard, Kentucky, died Tuesday, March 12, 2019, at Community Hospice Care Center, Ashland, Kentucky. He is survived by his wife, Linda Short, of Willard, Kentucky.
Funeral service will be 1 p.m. Friday at Bailey Family Funeral Home, Flatwoods, Kentucky. Burial will follow at Bellefonte Memorial Gardens, Flatwoods, Kentucky. Nancy Stamper

Aug. 14, 1943 — March 6, 2019

Nancy Sue Stamper, 75, of Ironton, passed away Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at LeConte Medical Center, Sevierville, Tennessee. She was born Aug. 14, 1943, in Lawrence County, a daughter of the late Frank and Margaret Henry Aldridge.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by one sister, Betty Wallace; and three brothers, Bobby Miller, John Aldridge and Brent Aldridge.
She is survived by her daughter, Teri Stamper (Chester Gene) Kelly, of Ironton; four sisters, Georginna Faye Kidd, of Ironton, Rebecca Snowden, of Orville, Frances (John) White, of Ironton, and Kathy Miller, of Wheelersburg; two brothers, Otis (Sonny) Bonnie Aldridge, of Ironton, and Bryan Aldridge, of Wheelersburg; one granddaughter, Jana Church Friley; one grandson, Michael Church; three great-grandchildren, Camryn Carr, Nathaniel Wheeler and Taylor Church; one step-granddaughter, Amanda (Josh) Gearheart; and one step-great-grandson, Conner Gearheart.
Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Friday at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. Burial will follow at Puckett Cemetery, Pedro.
