PROCTORVILLE — The Sybene-Chesapeake Senior Center will be resuming their monthly Our Day dinners on Friday, March 29.

“We held off for a few months, because of the weather,” center director Darlene Greene said. “But this will be our first for the year.”

The dinners, open to the community, began at the center’s location in a modular unit next to the Chesapeake Community Center, but, due to the size of the turnout, now takes place at First Baptist Church in Proctorville.

Doors open at about 10 a.m. for entertainment and the meal is served around noon. Those attending are asked to donate $3.

The dinners have proved popular and have been a major social draw for the community, with many officials and county figures often joining the crowd.

Green said the center is also planning their annual Senior Day at the Lawrence County Fairgrounds, set for May 14.

Beginning in 2014, the event has featured food, entertainment, vendors, health checks and more for seniors, with no cost of admission. Door prizes are awarded from each vendor and the event regularly draws hundreds.

“It’s a chance for seniors to see what is out there for them,” Green said of the offerings from vendors.
