The agenda is fairly light for the Ironton City Council meeting tonight, but there are committee meetings before and after the regular meeting.

There are four ordinances and one resolution on the agenda for the regular session.

The first ordinance will be amending the city budget.

The next item on the agenda is Ordinance 19-17, which would establish an annual business permit for group homes in the city. It would be up to the city’s building code officer to issue the permits after a number of conditions were met, such as owners of the group homes passing a background check. The buildings would have to be in properly-zoned areas and be no closer than 1,000 feet of a school, public park, library, senior citizen living facility or another group home. There would be a $1,000 fee for the permit and the group homes would go through an annual inspection by the building code officer and the fire department. The group home would also have to give a list of employees and residents to the chief of police.

Ordinance 19-18 is getting a second reading about amending the stormwater utility fee.  Residential homes would have a flat fee of $15. The fee would be $40 for commercial businesses with property which is 6,600 feet or less including parking lot. For businesses with more property, the fee would be a flat fee of $70 a month per water meter.

Up for third reading is Ordinance 19-14, which would establish a penalty for failing to pay various city fees a misdemeanor of the fourth degree.

The resolution deals with inactive funds.

Councilman Nate Kline said that the intent was to zero out the unused accounts and transfer the money to an infrastructure account.

“The accounts have been inactive and we can consolidate it into one where we can generalize it and have some capital improvement” to the city’s crumbling infrastructure, he said.

The council meets at 6 p.m. There will be a strategic planning committee meeting at 5:15 p.m., following that the Finance Committee will meet to discuss the city budget and after the regular meeting the public utilities committee will meet.
