As you will see in today’s Tribune, we have started a new weekly feature.

Each Thursday, “Up for Adoption” will feature a dog or cat currently at the Lawrence County Dog Pound.

They typically have dozens of animals in residence, all in need of good, caring homes.

The shelter has been a no-kill facility for several years, but that does not lessen the need to get these animals adopted.

For the $50 cost of adoption for dogs, the animal’s first shots, as well as a kennel cough vaccine and dewormer will be included.

There is an additional $12 fee for dog tags for residents of Lawrence County. Not only are these legally required, but the proceeds from them help to fund the shelter and efforts to help animals in the county.

Working with poundkeeper Melissa Nicely in doing this feature, we hope that this will motivate readers to visit the pound and to consider taking a furry friend home.

“Up for Adoption” will be the first of new weekly features that you will see added to The Tribune in coming weeks. We also plan to do Teacher Spotlight, focusing on local educators, as well as a few pieces that we  are finalizing.
