FRANKLIN FURNACE — There were a few things the Green Bobcats did and didn’t do.
Fortunately, one of the things they did was win.
Green didn’t hit well but did get pitching and defense as they beat the South Webster Jeeps 6-4 on Thursday.
Bryce Ponn tossed a complete game as he gave up six hits, struck out two a didn’t walk a batter.
“We didn’t hit that well, but we played well defensively. We had to grind out the win. Bryce Ponn only struck out two but he was very efficient and effective. He threw only 81 pitches,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
The Bobcats (2-1) took a 2-0 lead in the first inning.
Eli Webb and Tayte Carver singled, Levi Singleton walked to load the bases and Mason Barber had a two-run single.
After the Jeeps got a run in the second, Green got three in the third.
Ponn was safe on an error, Singleton and Caden Brammer walked to load the bases, Trevor Darnell reached on an error as a run scored, Ethan Carpenter walked to force home the second run and Webb grounded out as the final run scored.
The Jeeps got two runs in the sixth but Ponn shut them down the rest of the way.
Webb was 2-4 as Green got six hits.
