AID — The Symmes Valley Lady Vikings have been a big hit so far this season.
The Lady Vikings had 10 hits in a 12-3 win over the Fairland Lady Dragons on Thursday and 17 hits in a 17-2 Southern Ohio Conference win over the Sciotoville East Lady Tartans on Wednesday.
“We hit the ball pretty well the last two games,” said Lady Vikings’ coach Jeff “Odie” Estep. “We played good defense and (Sarah) Kingery and (Kara) Saunders both threw strikes.”
The Lady Vikings (4-0) took a 4-0 lead in the second inning against Fairland.
Erica Ross singled, Kelsie Gothard walked, Emily Sharp singled in courtesy runner Maggie Wise, Rachael Hayes had an RBI single and Morgan Jenkins’ grounded out for a run.
Fairland got a run in the fourth when Emily Bowen doubled, Howell walked, a wild pitch moved the runners up and Holli Leep grounded out for an RBI.
The Lady Vikings came back with five runs in the bottom of the inning.
Hayes singled, Jenkins doubled and Kingery singled for two runs. Saunders walked, Ross singled to load the bases and Gothard had a two-run single.
A run scored in the fifth when Hayes walked, went to second on a wild pitch and scored on a hit by Kingery and it was 10-1.
Fairland got two runs in the top of the sixth but the Vikings got the runs back in their half of the inning.
Bowen and Libby Judge doubled and Howell singled for the Lady Dragons’ runs.
Ross walked to lead off the Lady Vikings rally, Gothard was hit by a pitch, Payton Hunter walked and courtesy runner Wise and Gothard each scored on a wild pitch.
On Wednesday, the Lady Vikings jumped out to an 11-0 lead after two innings and never looked back.
Hunter was 3-3 with a double and two RBI to lead a 13-hit attack. Estep, Kingery, Jenkins and Hayes all had two hits.
