CHILLICOTHE — As the 2019 construction season gets under way, a 7.25-mile resurfacing project on U.S. Route 52 is scheduled to begin early next month.

Contractors for the Ohio Department of Transportation will pave approximately 4.5 miles of U.S. 52, as well as 2.75 miles of State Route 7 and State Route 527 between South Point and Chesapeake.

The project on U.S. 52 begins near County Road 18 (Solida Road) at South Point and will continue on State Route 7 and State Route 527 to the junction with Third Avenue and the Sixth Street (Robert C. Byrd) Bridge at Chesapeake.

Although some site work has already begun, construction isn’t scheduled to begin until Monday, April 8. Currently, there is little to no impact on traffic; however, once construction does begin, traffic will be maintained in a minimum of one, 12-foot lane in each direction, and a variable speed limit will be in effect.

The Shelly Company was awarded the contract in December 2018 and all work is scheduled to be completed by late summer of this year.
