SOUTH POINT — Brycen McCann was good individually. The Fairview Eagles were just a little better as a team.
McCann pitched a six-hitter and went 2-3 but the South Point Pointers fell 3-1 to the Fairview Eagles on Thursday.
McCann struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
“Brycen McCann pitched very well tonight. He contributed two hits as well,” said Pointers’ coach Larry Goodwin.
“We had plenty of chances to score runs and we were not able to convert. Fairview made some nice plays in the field when it counted.”
Fairview (6-2) got the lead in the second when Jack Roy reached on an error and scored on an overthrow.
The Pointers (2-2) tied the game in the third when McCann got a two-out single and Brody Blackwell had an RBI double.
Fairview broke the tie with a run in the fifth.
Jaxon Manning singled with one out, went to second on Terrick Smith’s single and scored on a fielder’s choice.
The Eagles got an insurance run in the seventh.
George Jervis singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch and scored when Braeden Barker each on an error.
