Lady Hornets roll past Clay County

CLAY, W.Va. — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets got just what they needed.
A tough early schedule to begin the season hasn’t been kind to the Lady Hornets who have kept battling. That battle resulted in a 13-5 rout of the Clay County Lady Panthers on Thursday.
Coal Grove racked up 17 hits led by Addi Dillow who was 3-4 with a double and two runs batted in, Jaiden Griffith 3-4 with two RBI, and Kaleigh Murphy who went 3-4.
Lauren Crum was 1-2 but had a double and three RBI. A. Schwartz went 2-4 with two RBI and Delaney Napier was 2-4 with an RBI.
Crum worked four innings of relief on the mound to get the win. She gave up only one hit, struck out four and walked four. Of the two runs she allowed, only one was earned.
Clay County led 3-0 after the first inning but the Lady Hornets took the lead with four runs in the second inning.
Coal Grove added a run in the third, three in the fourth and five more in the fifth to lead 13-3.
The Lady Panthers managed two runs in the bottom of the fifth but fell short as the game was called after five innings.
