Jerry Eugene Fields

May 24, 1938 – March 30, 2019

Jerry Eugene Fields, 80, of South Point, OH passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at his home.  The Coal Grove, OH native was born May 24, 1938, son of the late Austin and Myrtle Murray Fields.  In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister, Sue Robinson; a granddaughter, Kylie Sue and a great granddaughter, Baileigh.

Jerry enjoyed sports of all kinds, especially golf and football.  He was an outstanding football player at Dawson-Bryant High School and The Ohio State University.  After college, Jerry played professional football for the New York Titans (now Jets) and the Montreal Alouettes.  He had a special love for his church family, Arabia Baptist Church, where he was a life-long member.

Jerry is survived by his loving wife of 30 years, Joyce Ciccolella Fields; four daughters, Trudi Fields of South Point, OH, Amy (David) Baker of Edwardsville, IL, Nikie (Dalton) Carey of Ironton, OH and step-daughter Kara Ciccolella (Steve) Brown of Waterloo, OH; two sons, Brian (Cristi) Fields of Dayton, OH and Murray (Ann) Fields of Munster, IN; one niece, Julie (Bobby) Wagner of Shade, OH; one nephew, Jonathan (Kathleen) Robinson of Mentor, OH; fourteen grandchildren; three great grandchildren and a host of other loved family members and friends.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, 802 Solida Road, South Point, OH with Ron Henderson officiating.

Visitation will be from 12:00 – 2:00 PM at the funeral home.

Minnie Anderson

Dec. 27, 1945 – March 29, 2019

Minnie Nelson Anderson, of Ironton, born Dec. 27, 1945, daughter of the late Jacob Nelson and Mary Adkins Nelson, passed away on March 29, 2019 at Hospice Care Center in Ashland, Kentucky. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Jim Anderson, who passed in 2008.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by two children, Rebecca Anderson and Guy Anderson; four brothers, Eugene, Jacob Jr., Paul ‘Bud’ and Richard Nelson; and five sisters, Betty Nelson, Louise Abrams, Rose Mary Russell, Ruth Nelson and Yvonne ‘Vonnie’ Davis.

She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Brandy and Chuck Murnahan of Ironton; a son and daughter-in-law, Jesse and Letha Anderson of Rockvale, Tennessee; five grandchildren, Aden Murnahan and fiancé, McKenzy Barcus, Anderson Murnahan, Westena Anderson, Annika Anderson, Elias Anderson; and a great-grandchild, an additional Murnahan family member, who’s arrival is expected in November; brother, Andy (Deloris) Nelson of Petersburg, Michigan and a number of nieces and nephews.

Before Minnie became afflicted with RA and macular degeneration, her hobbies included hand quilting, genealogy and the history of the Civil War. She was an avid fan of J.R.R. Tolkien’s writings and the Hobbit stories of the Middle Earth.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh St., Ironton, with Rev. Leon Dalton officiating. Burial will follow in La Grange Cemetery on County Road 21.

Visitation will be noon Tuesday until the time of the service.

Lura White

March 8, 1940 — March 28, 2019

Lura “Larry” White, 79, of Ironton, passed away March 28, 2019 at his residence. The Lawrence County native was born March 8, 1940, the son of the late Lura White and Margaret Lewis Kimble. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Linda Fout White.

Lura was a former welder for Laborers Local #543, where he retired in 2008 after 31 years of service.

He is survived by a son, Larry P. White of Ironton; a daughter and son-in-law, Lisa and Brian Bryant of Ironton; grandchildren, Cierra Williams, Bryson White, Micheal Holtzapfel and Keeli Holtzapfel and six great-grandchildren.

Memorial services will be held at the convenience of the family.

Joan Joseph

Jan. 12, 1938 – March 30, 2019

Joan K. (Bamer) Joseph, age 81, of Jackson passed away Saturday, March 30, 2019 at Four Winds in Jackson. She was born Jan. 12, 1938 in Lawrence County to the late John and Irene (Turvey) Bamer.

Joan graduated from Rock Hill High School in 1956 and married John C. Joseph in the fall of that same year. She later ran the Hillcrest pool for several years in the late 60s. She enjoyed working in the family business at R&J Sales and Service in Jackson with her husband, John, and her son, Randy. She loved spending time with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

She is survived by her children, Bryan (Winda) Joseph, of Chillicothe, Randy (Andrea) Joseph, of Jackson and Jonda (Brad) Dunn, also of Jackson. Also surviving are her six grandchildren, Tammy Swisher, Nikki Willis, Mitchell Joseph, Joey Dixon, Kristen Shoemaker and Carly Joseph; brother, Mark (Debra) Bamer; six great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 62 years, John C. Joseph whom she married Sept. 1, 1956; and siblings, Teddy Bamer, Geraldine Dalton and Jewell Woodrum.

Friends may call today from 4-8 p.m. at the Lewis & Gillum Funeral Home of Jackson. Calling hours will also be held from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. Wednesday with a funeral following at 1 p.m. with Pastor Hannah Niday officiating. Burial will be held in Fairmount Cemetery.

Deborah Sowards

Deborah L. Sowards, 65, of Chesapeake, died Saturday March 30, 2019 in the Hospice House of Huntington. She is survived by her husband, Bobby M. Sowards.

Funeral service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Hall Funeral Home, Proctorville. Visitation will be one hour before the service on Wednesday. Burial will follow in New Zion Cemetery, Willow Wood.

Linda Chase

Linda Joyce Chase, 76, of Wurtland, Kentucky, formerly of Chesapeake, died Friday, March 29, 2019 at home. She was preceded in death by her husband, David L. Chase.
