Hankins, Redmen shut down Hornets to open OVC play

PEDRO — Logan Hankins was in a shutdown mode.
Hankins pitched a two-hit shutout as the Rock Hill Redmen beat the Coal Grove Hornets 8-0 in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Logan threw the ball well and we made the routine plays behind him. I was really pleased with the way he threw the ball,” said Rock Hill coach Barry Litteral.
“We hit the ball and took advantage of their mistakes and came out withi a win.”
The Redmen (4-1, 1-0) had 10 hits led by Landon Smith who was 4-4 with a double. Jake Blagg went 2-2 and Hankins 2-3.
Tait Matney and Nate Harmon had singles for Coal Grove (2-3, 0-1).
The Redmen took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Blagg walked, stole second, took third on an error and scored when Nick Blankenship grounded out.
Two more runs score in the second.
Smith singled, Seth Nichols walked and Jordan Griffith’s sacrifice bunt was misplayed for an error. Braydon Friend and Blagg each hit a sacrifice fly for the two runs.
Rock Hill made it 5-0 in the third.
Hankins was safe on an error, stole second and Kaleb Kidd had an RBI single. Kidd moved up on a ground out and Smith doubled to score the run.
The Redmen capped the scoring with three runs in the fourth.
Friend was hit by a pitch, stole second and scored when Blagg singled. Blagg stole second and he scored on Hankins’ base hit.
Hankins went to second on the throw home, took third on a ground out and scored when Kadin France reached on an error.
