PORTSMOUTH — This game was all about the pitching.
Portsmouth Notre Dame’s Cassie Schaefer pitched a two-hitter and outdueled Ironton’s Keegan Moore who hurled a four-hitter on Tuesday.
Schaefer and the Lady Titans were able to scratch out a run and edge the Lady Fighting Tigers 1-0.
Schaefer struck out seven and walked one. Moore was impressive with 10 strikeouts and no walks.
Notre Dame scored the only run of the game in the first inning with one out when Isabel Cassidy tripled and Claire Dettwiller followed with an RBI single.
Ironton’s only real threat came in the second inning.
Demi Sands drew a one-out walk and Riley Schreck singled to left to put runners at first and second. But Haylee Stevens flied out deep to left-center and Kylee Richendollar lined out to third based.
Notre Dame had only one other runner reach as far as second base when Paetyn Collins singled and stole second with one out in the second.
Moore retired the next two batters and ran off a string of 14 straight outs to end the game.
