Redwomen slip past Lady Hornets

PEDRO — This nail-biter didn’t leave much nail to bite.
The Rock Hill Redwomen won a tough and thrilling Ohio Valley Conference game over the Coal Grove Lady Hornets on Monday, 4-2.
Rock Hill (5-0, 1-0) had nine hits led by Rileigh Morris, Grace Stevens and Keilie Adams.
Morris was 2-4 with a home run, Stevens went 2-3 with two doubles and a run batted in and Adams was 2-3 with a double and an RBI.
Kylee Howard got the win as she allowed only five hits and walked just two. Kaleigh Murphy struck out six, walked none and gave up nine hits in taking the loss.
Delaney Napier had a big game for Coal Grove. She went 2-3 with a double and a home run.
Rock Hill took a 1-0 lead in the first inning when Morris singled and Stevens doubled.
Coal Grove (4-5, 0-1) went up 2-1 lead in the top of the second.
Napier hit a one-out solo home run for the first run. Maddie Malone then singled and Amber Schwatz reached on an error.
Rock Hill tied the game in the third on a leadoff home run by Morris.
The Redwomen broke the tie with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
With one out, Baylie Harrah reached on an error and Adams doubled. Sam Stamper singled to load the bases and Kelsey Olderham followed with a two-run single.
Coal Grove got a leadoff single by Jaiden Griffith in the seventh, but a double play and ground out ended the game.
