A value to the village

On Tuesday, the village of South Point took the time to honor a familiar face to residents.
Bill Van Bibber has served as chaplain for the mayor, council and the village for 14 years.
His long tenure spanned four mayors, beginning with Bill Gaskin and ending in February under his son, Jeff Gaskin.
Van Bibber typically opened meetings with a prayer and the appreciation for his kind nature was evident at the reception on Tuesday, where officials recounted his love of telling stories.
But, more importantly, it could be seen in Van Bibber himself, who expressed his admiration for village leaders and showed his understanding of the pressures of the job.
He stated that, sometimes, many do not fully appreciate what goes into governance, whether working with a budget or sometimes passing laws that may not be popular.
It is this compassion that made him valuable to South Point.
We salute Van Bibber for his service to the village and wish him the best in retirement.
