GALLIPOLIS — Now Brody Blackwell knows how Cincinnati Reds’ Luis Castillo feels.
Blackwell pitched a one-hitter and struck out seven only to end up on the losing end of a 2-0 score to the Gallipolis Blue Devils in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
Gallipolis scored the game’s only runs in the fifth inning.
After a strikeout to start the inning, Morgan Stanley walked and went to second on a passed ball.
After a second strikeout, Wyatt Sipple got the Blue Devils’ only hit as he singled to drive in Stanley.
Sipple stole second and came home on a two-base throwing error.
The Pointers got a hit by Drew Smith who stole second but was left stranded in the third inning.
Drake McClure walked and Nakian Dawson singled in the fourth but were left on base.
In the seventh, Grant Gifford singled and Brendan Dillon walked to start the inning.
But the next batter was called out for being out of the box and then a fly out brought up Blackwell who walked to load the bases.
However, reliever Cole Davis got the next batter on a called third strike to end the game.
Andrew Toler got the win as he worked six innings, gave up three hits, struck out seven and walked three.
