Lady Pointers hit past Green
SOUTH POINT — It wasn’t Math class, but the South Point Lady Pointers were still doing their multiplication.
The Lady Pointers had six players with two or more hits as they beat the Green Lady Bobcats 12-2 on Tuesday.
“We had six players with multiple hits which is always a good thing and Emily Byrd came in to bat and closed the door with her first-ever home run.,” said Lady Pointers’ coach Tanner Heaberlin.
“We played well defensively and had good pitching from Holly Ramey and Emily Byrd.”
Megan Epperly was 3-3 with a double and three runs batted in, Destinee Newton 3-3 with a double and two RBI, Emily Byrd 2-2 with a home run, double and three RB I, Sara Allen 3-4, Delaney Dickess 2-3 and Olivia Perkins 2-3.
South Point (2-5) scored in the first when Kylee Ellison walked, stole second and third and scored on a hit by Taylor Estep.
The Lady Pointers made it 3-0 in the second on singles by Dickess and Epperly and Newton’s two-run double.
The Lady Pointers added three runs in the bottom of the third.
Holly Ramey walked, Dickess singled, Epperly reached on an error. Courtesy runner Cierra Mahjer scored on a wild pitch and Newton and Sara Allen had RBI singles.
Green got two runs in the sixth when Kasey Kimbler and Ava Jenkins singled, Kerston Sparks reached on an error and Cass Kellogg had a two-run single.
But South Point scored six in the bottom of the inning to create the run rule win.
Holly Ramey, Dickess and Epperly all doubled for two runs and Newton singled in a run.
Byrd then drilled a three-run, walk-off home run to end the game.
Ramey went five innings for the win. She struck out five, gave up three hits and did not walk a batter.
