PORTSMOUTH — Ericka Bowman was in control.
Bowman turned in an outstanding performance as the Chesapeake Lady Panthers beat the Portsmouth Lady Trojans 5-3 on Friday in an Ohio Valley Conference game.
Bowman struck out 14 and walked seven, but she only gave up six hits and three were of the infield variety.
“(Bowman) had the strikeouts, but when they made contact it wasn’t solid,” said Lady Panthers’ coach Aaron Rice.
Chesapeake (4-6, 1-2) had seven hits with Ashley Tackett going 3-3 and Ryleigh Swann 2-3 with three runs batted in.
Each team got two runs in the first inning.
Tackett led off with a single, stole second and scored on a hit by Swann. Jordan Storms then doubled to drive in Swann.
After Portsmouth tied the game in the bottom of the inning, the Lady Panthers got a run in the second.
Tackett singled with two outs, Katy Spears reached on an error and Swann singled.
The scored remained 3-2 until Chesapeake got two runs in the fifth.
Spears doubled to lead off, Swann walked and the runners moved up on a wild pitch. Storms grounded out to score Spears.
Swann went to third on the play and then scored on a throwing error.
Portsmouth got a run in the bottom of the sixth when Madison Perry singled, moved up on a wild pitch and scored on Jacqueline Bautista’s base hit.
