It was a game in which the Ironton defense could have just stayed in the dugout.
Keegan Moore struck out 14 of the 15 outs as she pitched a one-hitter and the Lady Fighting Tigers beat the Coal Grove Lady Hornets 11-1 in a five-inning Ohio Valley Conference game on Friday.
Moore walked one and the only run was unearned.
“Keegan had a dominating game in the circle. She got stronger as the game went on,” said Ironton coach Missy Fields.
“As a team, we hit the ball well. Kylee Richendollar hit a big home run and Stevens and Moore had a couple of good hits tonight as well.”
The Lady Hornets’ only hit came in the third inning when Addi Dillow beat out a hard-hit ball to shortstop.
Coal Grove (4-8, 0-3) took a 1-0 lead in the top of the second.
Maddie Malone walked, Jaiden Griffith reached on an error and the run scored on a passed ball.
But Ironton (5-1, 3-0) answered with four runs in the bottom of the inning.
Moore singled, Riley Schreck was safe on an error and Haylee Stevens singled in a run. That set the stage for Richendollar who belted a three-run homer to centerfield.
Ironton got three runs in the third inning to lead 7-1.
Demi Sands singled and Moore doubled to start the inning. Sands scored on a passed ball and Stevens was hit by a pitch. Stevens went to second on defensive indifference and Kiandra Martin delivered a two-run single.
The Lady Tigers got their final four runs in the fourth.
Taiya Hamlet and Sands walked and Schreck delivered an RBI single. The runners moved up on a passed ball and then Stevens had a two-run single. Richendollar walked and Martin’s ground out scored Stevens.
Stevens went 2-2 and Moore 2-3 as Ironton had eight hits. Richendollar and Martin drove in three runs each.
