BEAVER — The Symmes Valley Vikings are starting to see some daylight.
The young Vikings played well before falling 6-4 to the Eastern Eagles in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
“I was proud of them. They fought hard. They didn’t give up. Brammer pitched well enough to win. He threw really well,” said Vikings’ coach Chad Renfroe.
Caden Brammer worked the first five innings for the Vikings before leaving due to pitch count. He struck out eight, walked three, gave up just one hit and only two of the four runs were earned.
The Vikings got a run in the third inning when Brammer singled, stole second and scored when Tanner McComas reached on an error.
Two errors in the bottom of the third helped the Titans score four times.
The Vikings cut the deficit to 4-3 in the fifth.
Levi Niece and Devin Renfroe both walked, McComas reached on an error and Griffin Hill was hit by a pitch to force in a run A passed ball scored the final run.
Eastern scored twice in the sixth to lead 6-3 thanks to three walks, a hit batsman and a single.
Symmes Valley tried to rally in the seventh but only managed a run.
McComas, Logan Brace and Riley Robinson all singled and Brammer walked to force in the run.
Brace was 2-3 and McComas 2-4 as the Vikings had six hits.
