Gallia deals Redwomen first loss of season, 5-1

PEDRO — It looks like the Gallipolis Blue Angels are officially a contender.
Despite and 0-5 non-league record, the Blue Angels went 2-1 in Ohio Valley Conference play this week including a 5-1 win over the previously unbeaten Rock Hill Redwomen on Friday.
Gallipolis’ Hunter Copley pitched a five-hitter as she struck out two and walked two.
Rock Hill’s Kylee Howard struck out three, walked none and was touched up for 13 hits.
Gallipolis (2-6, 2-1) got a run in the first inning when Chasity Adams singled, stole second and third and scored on a sacrifice fly by Malerie Stanley.
The Blue Angels added a run in the top of the third Adams and Stanley singled and Bailey Meadows’ grounded out.
Rock Hill (7-1, 2-1) got its only run in the third inning to get within 2-1.
Rileigh Morris was hit by a pitch leading off and went to third on Grace Stevens’ base hit. Howard hit into a force play as Morris scored.
Gallipolis pushed across a run in the fourth on two-out singles by Alex Barnes, Adams and Stanley.
The Blue Angels added a pair of insurance runs in the sixth.
Barnes and Adams singled, Stanley put down a sacrifice, Bailey Young hit a sacrifice fly and Meadows had an RBI single.
Stevens was 2-3 for the Redwomen.
Barnes, Meadows and Adams were 3-4 and Stanley 2-2 for Gallipolis.
