COAL GROVE — The Coal Grove Lady Hornets decided not to wait until the All-Star break to watch the Home Run Derby.
The Lady Hornets staged their own home run derby as they christened their new field on Saturday by tying for fifth place the Ohio High School Athletic Association record for most home runs in a single game with four in a doubleheader sweep of the Portsmouth West Lady Senators.
Lauren Crum, Jaiden Griffith, Addi Dillow and Rylee Harmon all homered in the second game as Coal Grove routed West 19-5 in five innings. The Lady Hornets won their first game ever on the new field with a 13-2 win in five innings.
Crum was the winning pitcher in the first game as she gave up only four hits, struck out four and walked one with just one earned run.
Dillow went 3-4 with two doubles as Coal Grove had 11 hits. Kaleigh Murphy was 2-3 with two RBI and Katie Deeds 2-2 and two runs batted in.
In the second game, the Lady Hornets racked up 18 hits with seven extra base hits including the four home runs.
Crum was 4-4 with a home run and three RBI while Harmon was 3-4 with a double, home run and five RBI.
Dillow was 3-4 with a home run and three RBI, Kaleigh Murphy 2-3 and an RBI, and Griffith was 2-3 with a home run and three RBI.
Murphy got the pitching win as she gave up only four hits. She struck out three, walked on and none of the runs were earned.
