Speaker inspires BES students: Layne attended school in Burlington, South Point

BURLINGTON — Students at Burlington Elementary were treated to a special speaker last month, in honor Women’s History Month.

Dr. Candace Layne has been director of Marshall University’s Counseling Center since 2018.

A 2006 Masters graduate of Marshall, she received her doctorate of Education degree from Argosy University in 2013.

“She went to Burlington Elementary and graduated from South Point High,” Harriette Ramsey, the school’s librarian, who invited Layne to speak, said. “She encouraged our young people and I wanted to show that they could live in Burlington and attain anything in life, go to college and be anything they want to.”
