The Ironton City Council is considering designating certain roadways in the city as a truck route to eliminate congestion. Also under consideration is a resolution to join a state program to make city purchases more transparent.

Ordinance 19-26 is going to be discussed and get first reading. If passed, it would establish a truck route on Latonia Street between 12th and 13th streets and on 12th Street between Latonia and Ashtabula streets.

The ordinance states that it would promote the flow and direction of traffic on public roadways and provide safety for vehicles and pedestrians. It also says that the Ironton government officials “desire to expand commerce and allow for easy ingress and egress to Muth Lumber Company.”

One resolution would have the finance department be a part of the Ohio Treasurer’s Checkbook program that sets up a searchable database so taxpayers can see what their municipality is spending money on. If passed, the finance department would put the past five years of spending data on ohiocheckbook.com by July 1.

In other items on the agenda, the council will have third reading and could vote on establishing an annual business permit for group homes in the city and an ordinance setting the stormwater utility fee.

In resolutions, the council will vote on authorizing the mayor to apply for a water pollution control loan for the construction, planning and design of sewer system on Bantham Lane as part of the fourth phase of the combined sewer and stormwater separation project.

And another resolution would establish a disaster recovery plan. The plan would designate the Finance Department as the ones in charge of getting the city’s computers back online after the computer system is rendered unusable.

Under the miscellaneous section, council will discuss the Intermet property, the compost area, a contract with Hecla Water and a contract with the Community Action Organization.

The Finance Committee will meet at 5:45 p.m. to discuss amending the city budget and the disaster preparedness plan. The regular council meeting begins at 6 p.m.

Both meetings are in council chambers on the third floor of the Ironton City Center and are open to the public.
