Alex Holtzapfel made things tough on the Tolsia offense. Kaitlyn Sheridan made things tough on the Tolsia defense.
Holtzapfel allowed just one run in a doubleheader and Sheridan went 5-for-6 at the plate as the St. Joseph Lady Flyers swept the Tolsia Lady Rebel 7-1 and 15-0.
Holtzapfel struck out five and walked two as she gave up only three hits in the first game. She then struck out five, did not walk a batter and allowed just four hits in the nightcap.
Sheridan was 2-2 in the first game and 3-4 in the second game.
But there was plenty of help.
Isabella Griffiths was 2-2 and 1-2 on the day, Kelsey Malone went 1-2 and 2-3, Holtzapfel 2-2 in the second game, Emma Whaley 1-3 in each game, Paige Preston 1-1 in the first game and Bella Whaley 1-2 in the second game.
In the first game, St. Joseph took a 3-0 lead in the first inning.
Sheridan walked, Emma Whaley was hit by the pitch, Malone walked, Holtzapfel hit into a fielder’s choice for a run and Preston unloaded a two-run double.
After Tolsia got an unearned run in the top of the second, the Lady Flyers got a run of their own in the bottom of the inning as Griffiths, Sheridan and Malone all singled.
The lead went to 5-1 in the third.
Bella Whaley walked moved to third on a pair of wild pitches and came home on Griffiths’ RBI single.
The Lady Flyers got two runs in the fourth when Sheridan doubled, Emma Whaley followed with an RBI single and then came around to score on consecutive wild pitches.
In the second game, the Lady Flyers got four runs in the first inning and never looked back.
Sheridan doubled, Holtzapfel and Griffiths walked and Bella Whaley was on through catcher’s interference to drive in a run.
Emma Whaley hit into a fielder’s choice to score a run, Lydia Sheridan and Kerri Jenkins walked to score a run and Laiken Unger’s ground out scored the final run.
Two runs scored in the second as Holtzapfel doubled, Malone walked, both moved up on a ground out and Bella Whaley grounded out for an RBI. Emma Whaley then followed with an RBI single.
The Lady Flyers put the game out of reach with nine runs in the third on seven hits and an error.
