Carmeleeta Stewart

Feb. 11, 1942 – April 12, 2019

Carmeleeta Stewart, 77, of South Point, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Huntington, West Virginia. The Lawrence County, Ohio native was born Feb. 11, 1942 a daughter of the late Charles and Edith Hennecke Wells.

Mrs. Stewart was a graduate and valedictorian of the Rock Hill High School class of 1959. She retired in 2017 after over 30 years as the library specialist for Ohio University Southern. Carmeleeta was a member of the Sheridan Freewill Baptist Church where she was the pianist for many years.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Holton Stewart; and a sister, Joan Reed.

She is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Kent and Becky Stewart of Ironton; two grandchildren, Laura (Andrew) Keffer and Audrey (Chris) Warner both of Ironton; two great grandchildren, Joseph Keffer and Margaret Keffer; two brothers and sisters-in-law, Fred (Barbara) Wells of Ironton and John (Susie) Wells of Elkhart, Indiana.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Friday, at Tracy Brammer-Monroe Funeral Home, 518 S. Sixth St., Ironton, with Pastor Randy Patrick officiating. Burial will follow in Highland Memorial Gardens in South Point. Friends may call Thursday evening from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m. and Friday from noon until the time of the service at the funeral home. Silas Stumbo

Jan. 20, 1928 – April 12, 2019

Silas Stumbo, 91, of Coal Grove, passed away Friday, April 12, 2019 at the Sanctuary of Ohio Valley. The Price, Kentucky native was born Jan. 20, 1928 to the late Amos and Asia Stumbo of Price, Kentucky. He is the husband of Imogene Stumbo, whom he married 71 years ago on June 14, 1947.

Silas was a member of Little Mary Church of Old Regular Baptist in Ashland, Kentucky. Silas was retired from Ironton Iron and worked at Alpha Portland Cement in Coal Grove. In his younger years he worked the coal mines in Kentucky, before moving to Ohio.

Silas loved his farm, where he raised cattle and took pride in his large gardens. He loved the times he spent with his grandkids as well as hunting, fishing and anything outdoors. Silas loved Williams Hill and special friend, the late Garland Williams. He also loved the special times spent traveling with special friend, Brother Junior Ruggles, and others to Old Regular Baptist churches.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one brother, Cecil Stumbo; two sisters, Roberta Collins and Eulena Stumbo; and a grandson; Matthew Stumbo.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by three sons, Gary (Kathy) Stumbo of Kitts Hill, Larry (Debbie) Stumbo of Shallotte, North Carolina and Steve (Virginia Ann) Stumbo of South Point; seven grandchildren, Larry D (Stephanie) Stumbo of Coal Grove, Sarah (Darrell) Humphreys of Deering, Rob (Angie) Stumbo of Oak Island, North Carolina, Andrew Stumbo of Dayton, Aaron (Nicole) Stumbo of Ironton, Emily Stumbo of Columbus and Adam Stumbo of Athens. He is also survived by six great grandchildren, Briana, Hunter, Douglas, Meredith, Halle and Chase.

Funeral services will be held 1 p.m., Wednesday at Phillips Funeral Home, 1004 S. Seventh Street, Ironton, with Brother Junior Ruggles and Brother Gary Blevins officiating.

Billie Hite

Billie O. Hite, 90, died at home, April 9, 2019. Private services were held at Slack and Wallace Funeral Home, South Point. They assisted the family with arrangements. Condolences to the family may be expressed at www.slackandwallace.com.
