MANCHESTER — The St. Joseph Flyers battled, but the effort just fell short.
The Flyers had an early lead, battled back to tie the game, fell behind by six runs and had a last-inning rally fall short in a 10-7 loss to the Manchester Greyhounds on Wednesday.
At. Joseph (10-3) took a 3-1 lead in the first inning.
Jackson Rowe reached on an error, Matt Sheridan put down a sacrifice and Isaac Whaley had an RBI single.
Chase Wilds doubled home Whaley, Ryan Payne singled and Jimmy Mahlmeister hit a sacrifice fly.
Manchester took a 4-3 lead in the third but the Flyers got a run back in the fifth when Rowe singled and Whaley doubled him home.
The Greyhounds rallied for six runs in the sixth to take a 10-4 lead on a hit batsman, a walk, four singles and a double.
The Flyers tried to battle back in the seventh but fell short as they scored just three runs.
Izsak Unger and Rowe walked and Wilds had a two-out RBI double. Payne walked and Mahlmeister delivered a two-run single.
But Michael Mahlmeister’s liner to left field was caught to end the game.
Wilds went 2-2 with two doubled and two runs batted in as the Flyers got nine hits. Payne was 2-3 and Whaley 2-4 with a double and an RBI.
