COAL GROVE — There was hitting. There was pitching. There was defense. And there was more hitting.
The Rock Hill Redmen pounded out 19 hits to back the three-hit pitching of Landon Smith in a 21-0 five-inning Ohio Valley Conference.
Rock Hill (11-3, 7-1) had 19 hits including five doubles.
“We hit the ball well and we were still patient at the plate. We worked the count and got 11 walks,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral.
Logan Hankins — who went 5-5 on Monday — was 4-4 with two doubles and three runs batted in to lead the Rock Hill offense.
Smith went 3-3, Nick Blankenship 2-2 with three RBI, Nick VanKuren 2-3, Kadin France 2-5, Seth Nichols 2-6 with a double and Brayden Friend 2-5 with a double. Jordan Griffith had the other double.
Coal Grove (4-7, 2-5) got hits from Josh Vanover, Trey Hunt and Xander Keaton.
Rock Hill took a 3-0 lead in the first inning and came back with five runs in the second inning highlighted by two-run singles from Smith and Blankenship.
“Everyone contributed whether it was a hit or a walk. Out of 12 players, 10 of them scored at least one run,” said Litteral.
Hankins had a two-run double to spark a 10-run fifth inning.
