Malone’s 2HRs help Lady Flyers to sweep

ASHTON, W.Va. — Kelsey Malone didn’t get to use her home run trot. She had to earn it the hard way.
Malone pulled off a rarity with two inside-the-park home runs to help the St. Joseph Lady Flyers beat the Hannan Lady Wildcats 12-2 and 16-2 on Tuesday.
Malone was 2-3 in the second game as St. Joseph got eight hits. Kaitlyn Sheridan was 2-2, Kerri Jenkins 1-1, Alex Holtzapfel and Laiken Unger 1-2 and Isabella Griffiths 1-3.
The Lady Flyers wasted little time as they scored seven runs in the first inning of the 16-2 second game win.
Sheridan and Griffiths singled and Malone had her first home run.
Holtzapfel singled, Paige Preston was hit by a pitch and Jenkins walked to load the bases. Unger singled home two runs and went to second on the throw to third base. Sheridan then singled home two more runs.
Hannan got two runs in the bottom of the first but the Lady Flyers scored three in the second.
Holtzapfel, Faith Mahlmeister and Emma Whaley all walked to load the bases and Jenkins got a long clutch single to clear the bases.
The final two runs scored in the third.
Malone started the rally with her second home run.
Mahlemister, Emma Whaley, Lydia Sheridan and Jenkins all walked to force in a run.
In the first game, St. Joseph had only four hits took advantage of 15 walks and one hit batsman to win 12-2.
Sheridan, Griffiths and Holzapfel all walked and Bella Whaley reached on an error was two runs scored. The third run scored on a wild pitch.
The Lady Flyers erupted for 11 runs in the second inning using seven walks, an error and a three-run double by Holtzapfel.
The final two runs scored in the third.
Emma Whaley, Lydia Sheridan and Unger all walked to load the bases, and Griffiths delivered a two-run single.
Holtzapfel got the win in the first game and Malone took the circle in the nightcap to get the win. Holtzapfel allowed two hits and Malone gave up four.
