Walks, errors prove to be downfall for Lady Flyers

Oh, those errors and walks.
With the aid of eight walks and seven errors, the Grace Christian Lady Soldiers used four unearned runs to beat the St. Joseph Lady Flyers 11-5 on Monday.
The Lady Soldiers took a 4-0 lead before the Lady Flyers got a run in the bottom of the second when Alex Holtzapfel doubled and Paige Preston singled.
St. Joseph got within 4-3 in the third when Isabella Griffiths got a base hit and Kelsey Malone slammed a two-run homer.
Grace Christian scored a run in the fourth on four walks but St. Joseph got the run back in the fifth on a double by Malone and Holtzapfel’s RBI single.
The Lady Soldiers scored twice in the sixth to lead 7-4 and then got four in the top of the seventh.
The Lady Flyers didn’t quit as they scored a run in the bottom of the inning.
Griffiths reached on an error, moved up on an overthrow and scored on a hit by Holtzapfel.
Holtzapfel went 4-4 with a double at the plate while Malone was 2-4 with a double and a home run. Preston also went 2-4 as St. Joseph outhit Grace Christian 10-to-7.
