PEDRO — Logan Hankins doesn’t mind being a one-hit wonder.
Unlike musicians who have only one hit record, Hankins pitched a one-hitter as the Rock Hill Redmen beat the Chesapeake Panthers 5-2 in an Ohio Valley Conference game on Wednesday.
“He couldn’t get his hip stretched out and had to battle that the whole game,” said Redmen coach Barry Litteral. “Give Hankins credit. He battled from start to finish.”
Hankins threw 124 pitches — one shy of the limit — and struck out 15 in going the distance. He walked five and hit a batter.
The Redmen (13-4, 9-2) struck first with two runs in the first.
Jake Blagg singled, stole second, went to third on a wild pitch. Hankins then walked and stole second.
Kaleb Kidd grounded out for an RBI and Kadin France singled in the second run.
The lead went to 3-0 in the second when Blagg reached on a three-base error and scored on a wild pitch.
The Panthers cut the deficit to 3-2 in the third.
Austin Browning and Trent Dearth walked and Thomas Sentz had the Panthers’ only hit as he singled in Browning.
Dearth scored on a sacrifice fly by Travis Grim.
The Redmen added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth.
Jordan Griffith beat out an infield hit, stole second and scored on a hit by Blagg.
After Blagg stole second, Seth Nichols had an RBI double.
Blagg and Nichols both went 2-4 as the Redmen had seven hits.
