The Ironton Lady Fighting Tigers said “thank you” to their seniors with a big 12-run gift.
Ironton blanked the Fairland Lady Dragons 12-0 in a five-inning Ohio Valley Conference game on senior night Wednesday.
The Lady Tigers (18-1, 11-0) had 10 hits with senior Haylee Stevens going 3-3 with a triple and two runs batted in.
Demi Sands was 2-3 with a double and three RBI and Peighton Rowe was 2-3 with an RBI.
Mary Beth Burton gave up four hits, struck out seven and walk one to pick up the win.
It didn’t take Ironton long to settle the outcome by scoring seven runs in the first inning.
Stevens singled, stole second, took third on a passed ball and scored on Rowe’s base hit.
Rowe stole second and scored when Burton reached on an error. Burton stole second and scored on Taiya Hamlet’s base hit.
The pattern continued as Hamlet stole second and came home on Sands’ hit. Sands stole second, went to third on a ground out and scored when Riley Schreck reached on an error.
Schreck stole second, Kiandra Martin was hit by a pitch and Stevens capped the rally with a two-run triple.
The lead went to 10-0 in the second.
Burton tripled, Hamlet walked and Sands belted a two-run double. Keegan Moore followed with an RBI double.
The final two runs scored in the third.
Stevens and Rowe singled and moved up on a ground out. Sands then reached on an error as the runners scored.
Libby Judge was 2-2 for Fairland while Emily Bowen and Olivia Combs were 1-2.
Ironton hosts Rock Hill on Friday in a league game.
