PORTSMOUTH — It was a bounce back win.
The Green Bobcats shook off a heartbreaking 1-0 loss to Portsmouth Clay in 10 innings on Wednesday by blanking the Portsmouth Notre Dame Titans 8-0 in a Southern Ohio Conference game on Thursday.
“We needed to play and get last night’s game behind us. The good thing is we didn’t give up any runs and we didn’t make any errors. We just need to keep getting good pitching and good hitting,” said Green coach Dan McDavid.
Levi Singleton threw 77 pitches as he fashioned a six-hitter. He struck out seven and did not walk a batter.
Tayte Carver had a big game for the Bobcats as he went 3-4 with a home run and three runs batted in. Singleton was 3-3 with two RBI, Bryce Ponn was 2-3 with a double and Mason Barber 2-4.
The Bobcats (17-2, 9-1) had 15 hits but still stranded 15 runners.
The game was scoreless until Green got four runs in the third.
Eli Webb singled, Tanner Kimbler walked and Carver belted a three-run homer. Ponn then doubled and Singleton had an RBI single.
The lead went to 7-0 in the fourth.
Carver, Ponn and Singleton all had singles for one run. Barber and Trevor Darnell followed with RBI singles.
The Bobcats final run scored in the seventh when Joe Webb singled, Carver walked, Singleton was hit by a pitch and Barber singled for the RBI.
