Errors key factor in Lady Hornets’ loss

COAL GROVE — Defense does matter.
The Coal Grove Lady Hornets were guilty of six errors that led to eight unearned runs as the South Point Lady Pointers picked up an 11-5 Ohio Valley Conference win on Wednesday.
South Point made only one error and had nine hits to back the pitching of Emily Byrd.
Holly Ramey led the South Point offense as she went 2-3 with a home run, a double and two runs batted in.
Kylee Ellison was 2-2 with a double and two RBI, Sara Allen 2-4 with a double and three RBI, and Delaney Dickess was 2-4.
Jaiden Griffith swung the big bat for the Lady Hornets who racked up 10 hits. Griffith was 3-3 with two home runs, a double and three RBI.
Macy Malone was 1-3 with a double and RBI as nine different players had hits.
South Point led 1-0 after the first inning only to have Coal Grove come back and go up 3-2 at the end of three innings.
But the Lady Pointers erupted for eight runs in the fourth inning to lead 10-3 and rolled to the league win.
